Cololele

Wearable interactive installation

About

"Cololele" is a combination of color and ukelele. This installation designed by the concept of synesthesia. It simulates human sensory input through color sensors, use the code algorithm to get synesthesia , and then controls the motors to pluck the strings and play the music.

The idea of synesthesia

The ability to associate sounds with colors is normally born. However artist Neil Herbisson managed to implant an antenna in his skull to translate images into audible vibration. And I want to have the ability to perceive colors in a more musicality way.

I chose four strongest color sections (red, green, blue, yellow) for sensor to recognize. And according my synesthesia feeling I composed four ukulele beats patterns based on different root notes corresponding to the four colors.
